Chronology
Charles, a retiree, gets a new lease on life when he answers an ad for a private investigator and becomes an informant in an undercover investigation at a nursing home
Michael Schur was inspired to create “A Man On the Inside” after watching the Chilean documentary “The Mole Agent.” He says, “The Mole Agent is powerful because it makes people feel something remarkably similar across all ages, ethnicities, and genders, and I would describe that feeling in a very reductive way as, ‘I need to call my mom.’” In our show, we try to do something similar with the tone: Basically, does our show contribute to that feeling of wanting to call our moms?
Remake of El Agente Topo (2020)
I’m not a binge-watcher, but we binged the entire season on the first night.
It has the right mix of warm, funny, sad, and deep, with a storyline that keeps you watching
Ted Danson is great, of course, but Stephanie Beatriz (Diaz in ’99) is incredible and her character is someone you’d want to spend all your time with.
A solid eight out of ten for me, an all-ages rating, and maybe another season
The show is set in San Francisco, which of course helps my rating, but most of all, while it’s very sad at times, it’s a comedy and gives hope for the future as we all get older.
