It is usually the job of the landowner to negotiate and finalize agreements with landowners with mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent.

They basically manage the land and obtain the lease so they can drill for oil and gas. As foremen on a construction site, they build roads, housing for workers (man camps), oversee the assembly of excavation machinery, and drill the site itself, especially in remote locations. No one on set knows he’s advising them on something so basic
I like the show and everything Taylor Sheridan does, but where he was a technical advisor. During the pumping rig accident, Billy Bob wasn’t even holding the pipe wrench correctly. I had to play it back because I couldn’t believe what I just saw.
And a portable explosive gas monitor
And at the scene of the accident, the right crew would have the equipment and knowledge to get the job done. Like a 36” pipe wrench that a couple guys could grab. No one would hit a short pipe wrench with a hammer.
Heck, level a 2 foot pipe to extend your arm if that’s all you have available
Having worked on similar locations, the show is a far cry from the safety precautions used in the industry, which OSHA says are ridiculous by the books. No one would climb into a truck full of pipe, and no one stands at height without a seat belt.
